About Oasis in Sosua 2

WHO ARE WE?

Oasis in Sosua is a rental condo community on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic.

We welcome

             - digital nomads

             - vacationers

             - snowbirds

             - remote workers

             - retirees

             - people planning to retire to the Dominican Republic

anyone else who just loves the DR, the sun, the Caribbean vibe, the beaches, the tropical lifestyle

You will be at home here if you:

want to live in the sun, in a relatively low cost economy

- need the Internet to work remotely (every day or now and again). We have strong wi-fi.

- still love travelling, are still mobile but prefer a place where assistance is at hand when needed

- want to avoid the isolation, transport costs and risks of a villa out of town

- want to explore a new country and environment from a safe home base

- like to be able to speak your own language (we speak English, French, German, Dutch, Italian as well as Spanish).

- appreciate having someone around to answer questions, give advice and opinions, point them towards sources and resources,       without trying to sell anything.

We don't just provide somewhere to stay, we provide safety, information, contacts, assistance, a community.  During your stay at Oasis in Sosua you are not just a customer, you are one of us - familia. We are here to help whenever you ask.

But if all you want is a quiet place to sleep, where things work properly, convenient for the beaches, bars, banks and a good selelction of restautants, then just rent a condo here - enjoy your stay - and ignore us.

WHERE ARE WE?

We are located near the third city of the Dominican Republic, Puerto Plata. Our ocean is the Atlantic (the world water-sports venue of Cabarete is just a few miles away), we have mountains just behind us, and Sosua has a beach that ranks in listings of the best beaches in the Caribbean.

Easily accessible via Puerto Plata airport, just 10 minutes' drive away, Sosua welcomes thousands of sunseekers fleeing the grey cold north every year, as well as having a sizeable resident population of "gringos" as ex-pats are commonly referred to here. Daily flights to the US East Coast and to Canada throughout most of the year, weekly flights to various European countries.

Oasis in Sosua is located close to the centre of the El Batey district of Sosua - 10 minutes' walk (800 metres or less) from both main public beaches and both supermarkets. (See map below). Everything you need on a daily basis is within walking distance: banks, stores, beaches, local transport, many restaurants and bars. The local private hospital is 15 minutes' walk or 3 minutes' drive away.

WHAT IS OUR CLIMATE?

We are your place in the sun - 10 hours or more per day on average from May to September, and worst case December and January, "only" 7.5 hours per day. Rainfall is highly variable, but the summers are usually drier than the winters.

Caribbean islands tend to be at risk from hurricanes. The North Coast around Sosua is well protected by three mountain ranges to the south, and almost all storms either turn north past Puerto Rico, or travel to the south of the island and visit Haiti and Cuba. Most hurricanes miss us, and those that come by are usually out at sea and rarely worse than a windy, rainy day. The risk is not zero (e.g. hurricane Irma in 2017 caused damage and brought down trees and a handful of buildings across the north), but it is low compared to most other areas in the Caribbean, Florida or the Gulf of Mexico.

WHAT DO WE NOT DO?

We do not accept pets (sorry, we simply don't have the space), nor can we accept children under 12, as the pool is deep and therefore dangerous. We are not a party site: at night, we ask residents to be quiet from 11pm to allow others to sleep. We do not allow prostitutes on the site (Sosua has a problem with sex tourism: we don't allow that to invade our premises), and also no overnight guests - only those named when renting.
